Excellence is expected in treatment and total ankle replacement technology has made tremendous strides forward in effectiveness and additional mobility. Dr. Gary Schmidt is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery. Working out of Barnes Jewish West County, Dr. Schmidt has completed more total ankle replacements than any other specialist in the city. A Board-certified Orthopedic surgeon with advanced fellowship training in foot and ankle mobility, he personally takes each patient through every step of the assessment process including surgery and post-surgical care.
Dr. Schmidt relies on the INBONETM Total Ankle System, which has long-term results that compare favorably to knee and hip replacements. This new technology allows complete replacement of the ankle with a prosthesis that maintains motion and minimizes pain without the complications of earlier used ankle fusion techniques.
Ankle replacement has proven to be an excellent option for properly selected patients. Patients return ankle function faster than fusion and with far less arthritic risk to surrounding joints.
